Membership Guidelines
- Full membership is open to any person interested in the aims of the Association.
- Members may be enrolled in any one of the following grades on payment of the appropriate subscription and shall be entitled to enjoy the rights and privileges specified in each case.
- Full Membership ($150 per annum):
- to receive current publications of the Association.
- to submit manuscripts for consideration for inclusion in current publications.
- to receive notice of and to attend all general meetings with the right to vote.
- to receive notices of and attend conferences and meetings of the Association.
- to be nominated, and to make nominations, for election to the Executive Committee.
- to enjoy such other rights and privileges as the Executive Committee may from time to time determine.
- Life Membership (a composition fee of $2,400):
- Life Membership enjoys all the rights and privileges of Individual Membership listed under A.
- Joint Membership ($200 per annum):
- Husband and wife may subscribe to Joint Membership which shall entitle both parties to all the rights and privileges of Full Membership under A except item (i);
- the joint members shall have the right to receive one and not two copies of current publications of the Association.
- Student Membership ($100 per annum):
- Only full-time students can become Student Members.
- Student Members shall have all the rights as Individual Members in the manner specified in the Regulations listed under A, except (iii) and (v).
- Student Members shall also have the right to receive notices of and attend the Annual General Meeting, but without the right to vote.
- Corporate Membership I (for any geography-related organization) ($280 per annum):
A college, school, educational institution, geography or other relevant society in an educational institution, or a non-educational institution or society with the approval of the Executive may subscribe to Corporate Membership I which shall entitle both parties to all the rights and privileges of Full Membership under A except item (iii) and item (iv):- The Corporate Member shall receive notices of and send one representative only to attend the Annual General Meeting with the right to vote.
- The Corporate Member shall receive notices of and send as many representatives to meetings as desired (unless otherwise specified) but send one representative only to meetings where numbers are restricted (as stated in the notice of the meeting).
- Corporate Membership II (for a department/centre of a university only) ($2,000 per annum):
All full-time faculty members (excluding part-time, honorary or visiting appointments) are entitled to free Individual Memberships of the Association. Each Individual Member will have the same rights and obligations as an individually subscribed Individual Member.- The Department will have the right and obligation to nominate a Departmental Representative to serve on the Executive Committee of the Association.
- The Departmental Representative will have the right to nominate a person to serve as the Representative of the Hong Kong Section of the International Geographical Union (IGU) and to attend the IGU Congress in such capacity (on a self-financing basis). Should more than one nominee be put forward, an election will take place, and each Executive Committee Member of the Association will have one vote.
- Full Membership ($150 per annum):
- Membership shall be deemed to have lapsed if the annual subscription remains unpaid before the commencement of the Annual General Meeting.
- A person whose membership has lapsed may apply for re-admission to the Association.
